FEBRUARY 17, 2026, BELGRADE, SERBIA. This weekend’s big event in the world of jiu-jitsu was the ADCC Europe, Middle East & Africa Trials, the second qualifier and the last chance for some of the sport’s top players to win their ticket to the big show later this year.

In degrees of importance and competitiveness, the European, Middle Eastern, and African Trials have traditionally been at the bottom of the pool in comparison with the other world qualifiers. That trend remains unaltered as this tournament saw the overall level of contenders a fair few steps behind the level of talent observed in the qualifiers of North & South America, as well as, to a lesser extent, those of Oceania & Asia.

The tournament saw a handful of new talent emerging, particularly in the men’s 77-kilogram division, where Russian brown belt player Nikolay Vetrov took home gold, beating a few good names along the way. Vetrov had made a strong showing last year at the Quintet event and looked even better in Belgrade this weekend. Beautiful armbars, a solid top game, and knowledgeable in leg-lock defense, Nikolay will be a good name to look out for in the future. Germany’s Janette Gloger, currently training with AOJ, is another competitor who proved her talent. Fast, strong, an excellent base, and well executed “bread and butter” type game with strong fundamentals and positional dominance over flashy gamesmanship.

Another player who looked flawless in his #1 podium placing performance was Marlon Tajik. The 22-year-old phenom was an absolute delight to follow throughout the event due to his aggressive and relentless pace. Submission-oriented and with fun scrambles, Tajik was making his black belt debut, a rank he earled earlier from Andre Galvao in the US. We saw Marlon as one of Europe’s biggest chances of reaching the podium at the ADCC Finals if he shows up the way he did in Serbia. Below are the results of the main matches this weekend.
